Party Questions

What do I need to do to book a party?
Please check out our available date/time and choose options. Then you may either fill out our party inquiry form. Once you have picked available date and a party package, you can make a reservation by making a non-refundable 50 % down payment. All reservations are made on a "first-come/first-serve" basis and no date will ever be reserved without a deposit. Upon receipt of your invoice by email, you will be asked to visit our confirmation page and agree to our party policy to finalize your booking.

What is your cancellation policy?
Sorry, parties cannot be cancelled for a refund.

Can I reschedule my party?
The date you choose when booking your party is final and party dates cannot be rescheduled under any circumstance.

How early should I book my private party?
We advise you to book as far in advance as possible. You can book a party up to one year in advance. Especially during the hot summer or cold winter months, our weekend party schedule tends to get booked solid quickly. On occasion parties get canceled, so if you consider booking a party on a short notice, feel free contact us to find out if there are any last-minute availabilities.

Can I rent the facility for events other than birthday parties?
Yes, we are available for private events that include both adults and children, such as fundraisers, field trips, baby showers, baptisms, graduations, family reunions, etc.

Which party package is perfect for me?
Our basic package only includes the use of our playground, admission for 15 children, 20 adults and the services of two party assistants. Every party can be customized by choosing from a list of available options. You may find that opting for one of the other party packages over the basic package will not only save you time and the hassle of buying and bringing your own disposable party supplies, it might also be easier on your wallet, since you would have to buy your supplies at retail prices.  Our party planner Nancy will gladly discuss the available options with you and advise you on how to ultimately keep your party as cost-efficient as possible by cutting unnecessary waste without cutting corners. Nancy can be reached at (323) 839-0872.

What do you use for party supplies, such as table cloths, plates, party favors, etc.?
Peekaboo Playland is trying to do its part of reducing waste by supplying reusable decorative oil cloth and animal and flower-themed melamine plates instead of disposable paper and plastic plates and table coverings. Our party favors are customized to suit age and gender of your little guests. Each paper goodie bag usually contains 2-3 items of the following: bubbles, friction cars, bracelets, jeweled rings, dinosaur figurines, 3" bouncy balls, etc. We will gladly include any additional items you wish to bring. Some themed parties may include fairy wings or inflatables as party favors instead of goodie bags

How many tables do you have for seating?
We have three 7' long tables, each with benches on both sides. One is normally used for food and drink, etc., while the other two are used primarily for the guests. There are also comfy couches and chairs spread throughout the playground.

What time can I get there to set up for my party?
You are given 15 minutes to setup for your party, which from our many years’ worth of experience is sufficient, especially considering that you will have two assistants helping you. Please know that there is a convenient loading zone located right in front of our Eagle Rock entrance on Colorado Boulevard or in our Bel Air parking lot.

What is the parking situation during parties?
Bel Air Location: We share the Bel Air Foods parking lot, which has plenty of parking available 7 days a week.
Eagle Rock Location: On the weekends, you may park in the city hall parking lot on the east side of Maywood Avenue, just north of Colorado Boulevard (catty-corner from Peekaboo Playland.) There is usually plenty of metered street parking up and down Colorado Boulevard as well as unlimited free parking on all side streets, such as our cross street Maywood Avenue. And remember that meters on the boulevard don't need to be fed on Sundays.

Can I invite extra kids beyond the 15 included in my party package?
Extra kids are welcome only if you booked a private party. For all kids 9 months to 12 years of age an additional fee of $12/$15/$20 applies, depending on your party location and package.

Are the birthday kid and parents included in the 15 kids/30adults guest count?
Yes, the 15 kids include the birthday child and 14 friends, plus 2 parents and 28 adult guests.

What is the maximum number of guests I can invite?
All 2-hour party packages include admission for 15 children (ages 9 months to 12 years) and 30 adults (13 years and over). If the amount of 15 children is exceeded, a fee from $12-$20 per extra child and $5-$10 per extra adult, depending on party package and location, will be added to your final bill. PLEASE NOTE: 2-hour parties must not exceed a 30 children and 45 adult guest count. If they do, a third party coordinator ($50), plus an additional clean-up fee ($250) will be added to the final bill. Guest count limitations do not apply to 4-hour party reservations.

May I bring outside food to my party?
Yes, you may bring any kind of food, with the exception of pizza, candy, chocolates, popcorn, chips and ice cream. If you have your party catered, please consider that we do not allow any chairs or tables of any kind. There is a $20 fee for outside food vendors that prepare foods, such as taco carts and waffle stations.

Why can't I bring my own pizza?
We reserve the right to exclusively supply all celebrations at our playground with pizza, similar to a restaurant reserves the right to supply all beverages in addition to meals to their patrons. But unlike the mark-up of restaurant beverages, the mark-up on our pizza orders is very modest and covers tax, tip and delivery fees. Our service also guarantees that your pizza will be delivered fresh and on time, which enables you to fully enjoy your party without having to worry about the logistics of providing food.

Where do you order your pizza from?
Our pizzas are made fresh for your party by Big Mama's & Papa's (Eagle Rock) and Fabroccini's or Domino's (Bel Air). They offer a huge variety of styles and toppings. Our suppliers offer gluten-free and vegan alternatives. The double-cut slices of our catered regular pizzas are also perfect for little party animals to hold up and bite into, as opposed to some thin-crust varieties.

Why no candy, chocolates, chips, ice cream or popcorn?
Chips, popcorn and sweets may pose a choking hazard for children at play and tend to leave the play structures and floors uncomfortably greasy and sticky.

Can I schedule a birthday party on a weekday?
Yes, but private parties can only be from 8-6pm. See party packages for pricing. In addition, semi-private weekday parties can be booked for any two-hour slot from Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The cost includes a reserved table and admission for 10 children and all accompanying adults. Out of consideration for our open-play clients, who might also be enjoying the playground during a semi-private party, the event must not exceed 10 children. The options of extra time, face painting/tattooing and organized games are not available for semi-private events. The same outside food policy we established for private parties applies to semi-private parties.

Can we have a piñata at my party?
Sorry, due to the risk of injury to the children we do not allow piñatas at our parties.

What is the service fee? Is it a tip?
The service charge covers the cost of the hours needed to prep and plan the event, while ensuring a living wage for all of our employees. The service charge is not a gratuity that goes directly and entirely to the party coordinators who work during your event. You may want to show your satisfaction with their service by kindly leaving a supplemental tip. Please know that tips are neither necessary nor expected, but always appreciated.

The service charge used to be labeled ‘gratuity'. However, a gratuity by law has to be distributed directly and in full to the party assistants that helped host your particular party. Labeling it a service charge enables us to distribute a portion of the proceeds to other team members working during the week and 'behind the scenes'. It also allows us to cover other labor-related expenses. We've kept the service charge at 15% (below the common 20%) in order to leave some overhead for clients who feel inclined to add an additional tip for their party coordinators.

Finally, you can find additional information about service charges on the website of the Department of Industrial Relations.

What if I have a concern or complaint?
If you are not completely happy during or after a visit or party, we would love to hear from you personally right away. We appreciate the chance to right all wrongs and want you to know that we value your input, as it helps our business improve. And we and are certain that most upsets turn out to be based on a simple oversight or misunderstanding and can more often than not be easily resolved when promptly addressed.
